How we test and rank outbound tools
Most software roundups are written from the vendor's pricing page. Ours start there and then go looking for the parts that page leaves out.
What we verify, and how
Every tool in this directory is documented against the vendor's own pages, on the date shown in the Last verified field on each page. We record four things specifically because they are the four things other directories get wrong:
- Real starting price — not the marketing "from $X" if that tier excludes the feature being discussed.
- Whether a free trial needs a credit card — this changes how cheaply you can evaluate a tool.
- Inbox and seat limits per tier — the number that actually determines your monthly cost as you grow.
- Affiliate terms — commission rate, duration, cookie window and approval type, because we publish a directory aimed partly at operators who resell this work.
What we do not do
We do not publish a "best" ranking that ignores price. We do not report bounce rates or reply rates we have not measured ourselves. Where we are repeating a vendor's claim, we say so.
We also do not accept payment for placement, and no vendor can buy a higher position. Ranking order in the directory reflects the priority tier we assign based on fit for the audiences we write for — agencies and founders running cold outbound.
Affiliate disclosure
Some links on this site are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission if you sign up
through them. This is how the site is funded, and it costs you nothing extra. Every affiliate
link is marked with a rel="sponsored" attribute, and each page
carries a disclosure next to the links.
The important part: commission rates never determine whether a tool is recommended, or where it ranks. Several tools in this directory have no affiliate program at all, and they are listed with the same detail as the ones that pay us. Where a tool's affiliate terms are unfavourable — for example a one-year cap instead of a recurring commission — we say that plainly on the tool's page, because it is useful information for readers who resell this work.
Corrections
Pricing and program terms in this category change constantly, and a directory is only worth reading if it admits when it is wrong. Every page carries the date its numbers were last checked against the vendor's own site, so you can judge how much to trust it.
